New Level New Language, Sis.

BP - New Level New Language Sis

Ever heard the phrase, “New Levels, New Devils”? It means there’s a new obstacle awaiting you on each new level. Our adversary will sometimes be people or things outside of us, naysayers, haters, and opponents. But, don’t forget the adversary within. Habits we refuse to give up, insecurities we haven’t addressed, a new level of mastery we won’t commit to, fear we allow to run rampant, toxic relationships we can’t bear to end, and negative self-talk we engage in.

Most people have small amounts of growth during their lifetime because they decide they aren’t willing to give up anything in order to get access to the next level. They may be lacking, they may be unfulfilled and unhappy, but they are comfortable.

I created our private accountability group for this reason. I know what it feels like to take a step in the direction of your desire, feel a clarity and freedom like you’ve never felt before, yet turn and run in the opposite direction. Uncharted territory, no matter how promising, can be one of the scariest views. Accountability will keep your goals top of mind, as you’re required to post an action photo daily. Knowing others are watching makes us work harder. This is known as The Hawthorne Effect. In the 1950’s and many times since then, scientists have observed people’s productivity when they’re being watched and when they aren’t. They always perform better while being watched. The movie, The Circle, cited this as reason to monitor people 24/7. Less rape, less stealing, less abuse when people are watching.

A good accountability group allows you to learn from the mistakes and success of others. And, it allows you to move beyond your mistakes. One of the keys to success is learning how to fail and keep it moving. You’ll never make progress if you quit after every hiccup.

One way to keep your resilience at an all time high is to begin speaking kindly to yourself. As you begin leveling up, your self talk is sure to try to sabotage your new direction. Don’t let it.

Instead of….                                             Try thinking….

I’m not good at this.                                 What am I missing?

This is too hard.                                        This may take some time and effort.

I’ll never be as smart as her.                  I’m going to figure out what she does and try it.

It’s good enough.                                       Is this really my best work?

I give up.                                                     I’ll use some of the strategies I’ve learned.

I am brave enough to try.

When I don’t succeed right away, I try again.

I ask for help when I need it.

I strive for progress, not perfection.

I haven’t figured it out, yet.

I am capable.

I know who I am and I am enough.

I choose to be present in all that I do.

I choose to think thoughts that serve me well.

I choose to reach for a better feeling.

I share my happiness with those around me.

My body is my vehicle in life; I choose to fill it with goodness.

I feel energetic and alive.

My life is unfolding beautifully.

I am confident.

I always observe before reacting.

I know with time and effort I can achieve.

I love challenges and what I learn from overcoming them.

Each step is taking me to where I want to be.

“It’s not what you say out of your mouth that determines your life, it’s what you whisper to yourself that has the most power.”

– Robert Kiyosaki

We all talk to ourselves. The other day I wore sandals in the rain instead of cute rainboots (which I don’t own) and I said some of the ugliest things to myself before crying hysterically on the phone to my husband about how real adults check the weather in the morning.

We know what God has said to us. We know the batons that have been passed to us. But, sometimes, what we see feels like more of an indication of our future than what we know.

Have you ever felt that way?

Like, what you see is the only thing you’ll ever get?

Well, I know that isn’t true. What you see is revealing what needs to be nurtured and what needs to be pruned. Write this on a stick note and put it somewhere you can see it.

My obstacles are flood lights.

They shine brightly on your next step. So, no more negative self-talk, sister! You were created for such a time as this. Opportunity lies ahead of you. Keep becoming who you were created to become so you can live the life you were created to live. The world is waiting on you to rise to your rightful place.

  1. Love your perspective on this. We have to take those thoughts captive and replace them with the light. We believe ourselves – so it is critical that we tell ourselves good things that will lead to victory!
